Overview
These kits are intended to allow your factory automatic floor shifter that came in your car to now work with a more modern transmission. The goal is to take the guesswork out of a transmission upgrade and makes your shifter function as if your car came that way from the factory.
The factory Powerglide (2-speed automatic) shifters are able to be used without modification for connecting to a TH350 or TH400 (3-speed automatics). However, when switching to a 4-speed overdrive automatic this is no longer true. View the diagram below for a gate comparison.
For factory "Rallye Sport" shifters, the original "Slap-Shift" function can sometimes still be utilized, but the conversion kit does not currently include a new secondary plate for this to allow for a 3rd -> 4th shift-stop when using with a 4-spd automatic.
Often reconnecting any interlock linkages that go to the steering column can prove to be difficult or in some cases impossible due to headers or range select shaft location differences between different transmissions. To solve this we recommend relocating your neutral safety / back-up light switch to directly on the side of your shifter with our Neutral Safety / Back-up Light Switch Relocation Kit.
